Sure, it's important to have standards, but some of you need to chill out. There's a fine line when it comes to dating between having high standards for the purposes of self-empowerment and having high standards because what you're looking for is so specific that your mystery partner simply may not be human. Knowing your worth and knowing not to compromise on certain factors is an essential part of your growth as a single adult. It's often part of what dating in your twenties is all about.

 

However, there's another key stage in dating that becomes integral to your growth regardless of whether or not you're in a successful relationship. This phase is one in which you learn to accept other people for who they are in the same way you want others to accept who you are. This is obviously easier said than done, and it's a process of trial and error. But this kind of shift in thinking is necessary when looking for a partner because you learn to separate the real dealbreakers from unrealistic expectations you may be projecting onto your current or future significant other.
